About & Methodology
KumiteAI Insights is the research and publishing arm of KumiteAI. It studies how competitive karate is evolving using video analysis, WKF rule history, and match data. The coaching product is downstream of this research, not the other way around.
Data sources
- Public tournament results and nomination lists (WKF, PKF, and affiliated national federations, via sportdata.org)
- Match footage from tournament video coverage, including partnership-provided event photography (currently: KClipsCanada, media pass)
- Published WKF rule documents and bulletins
What we've measured (last verified live against our own database: September 7, 2026)
- 94 tournaments, 46 countries, 7 sanctioning bodies (WKF, PKF, Karate Canada, EKF, AKF, OKF, UFAK)
- 76,538 recorded bouts (66,435 kumite, 10,103 kata)
- 23,849 distinct athletes, January 2022 – July 2026
What we haven't measured yet
Technique-timing benchmarks (reaction speed, strike-to-score latency) are a Phase 2 capability. As of September 7, 2026, zero benchmark rows are exposable. We will not publish a number here until it comes from our own measured data, and we will say so plainly when it does.
Standards we hold ourselves to
Every statistic we publish is either measured by our own pipeline or attributed to a named, linkable source. We distinguish established fact from our own analysis or hypothesis, and we say plainly when something is aspirational rather than already measured.
